LIV Golf returns to the golfing calendar on this week on Friday with the $25 million LIV Golf – Adelaide, visiting Australia for the first time.

Dubai based LIV player Anirban Lahiri (Ind), part of the Crushers GC team, has shown recent good form and moved up 11 spots to 91st in the latest published Official World Golf Ranking, following his tied second finish in the International Series – Vietnam on the Asian Tour.

The 54-hole event that has $20 million allocated to the Individual Event and $5 million for the Team Event sees the all-Australian Ripper GC Team of Cam Smith, Marc Leishman, Matt Jones and Jed Morgan attracting all the local interest along with LIV boss Greg Norman with a sold-out event.

The PGA Tour sees the Zurich Classic of New Orleans take place. It is a team strokeplay event with pairs battling it out over four rounds and two different formats: rounds one and three are fourball and the second and fourth rounds are foursomes, alternate format.

Last year’s champions Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay shot a 29 under-par score of 259, in this unique format in golf and return to defend their title.

Tour debut

Last week’s winner on the PGA Tour at Hilton Head, Matt Fitzpatrick, who moved up to eighth in the OWGR, will tee it up with his younger brother Alex, who made his Tour debut at the Valspar Championship in 2022. He played five events on PGA Tour Canada last year as well, notching two top-25 results.

Other pairs of note include Ryder Cup connections in US Captain Zach Johnson with Captain’s assistant Steve Stricker and Europe Captain Luke Donald with Edoardo Molinari, one of his assistants who is in on a sponsor exemption. Eight of the top 20 in the world are teeing it up at TPC Louisiana.

Only 33 teams and ties make the 36 hole cut from the original 80 pairs starting on Thursday.

The winners will each receive 400 FedEx Cup points.

The DP World Tour visits Japan for the first time in its history with the ISPS Handa Championship. Dubai based players Rafa Cabrera Bello and Nicolas Colsaerts will both tee off alongside three-time winner of the Dubai Desert Classic, 53 year old Ernie Els in this 17th event of 44 of the 2022 – 2023 season.
