Japan's Takumi Kanaya shot a third round of six under par 66, for a three round total of 17 under par 199, in the $2 million International Series Vietnam at KN Golf Links, in Cam Ranh, on the south-central coast of Vietnam on the Asian Tour.
24 year-old Kanaya, won the International Series – Oman at Al Mouj Golf, Muscat, earlier in the year. He is currently ranked 140th in Official World Golf Ranking, third in OOM International Series Order of Merit and fourth on Asian Tour Order of Merit.
Kanaya had five birdies and an eagle on the 553 yard par five fifth hole in his round that contained just 27 putts.
Three back of Kanaya is second round leader, Jazz Janewattanond who shot a third round 71, not able to match his round two course record of 62 that contained only 22 putts. Tied with Jazz on 202 is Kevin Yuan with a third round of 66.
Dubai based 35 year-old Anirban Lahiri shot an impressive 67, five under par on moving day to be in tied 13th. Teeing off tee 10 Lahiri had nines of 34 and 33 with seven birdies.
This is his second tournament on the Asian Tour this season.
Excited and positive
Lahiri told GULF NEWS after completing his round, ‘I am quite happy with how I played today – I made a few mistakes at the start of the week. I am not used to playing on slow grainy greens – they are challenging. My play was really solid – driving it nicely, and hitting it close. I am excited and positive - see if we scare the leaders and shoot a low one tomorrow.’
Paul Casey, winner of the 2007 and 2009 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as well as the 2021 Dubai Desert Classic shot a third round level par 72, to lie in tied 46th (74, 64, 72).
The final round tee times sees the leaders out last in threeballs, in a two tee start at 9.30 am (local Vietnam time).
