Dubai: Dubai Police have arrested two brothers, and their wives (who are also sisters), along with one child, for engaging in deceptive begging practices near a mosque.
The four individuals were caught acting as if they were suffering from disabilities, contrary to the truth. Dubai Police urged the public to report any instances of begging to the call Centre at (901), the police eye platform, or the E-Crime service.
In the first two weeks of Ramadan, a total of 67 beggars were arrested in Dubai. As part of its anti-begging campaign, the General Department of Criminal Investigations, in collaboration with police stations, officials caught 31 men and 36 women begging in the holy month in the said period.
Colonel Ali Salem Al Shamsi, director of the Infiltration Control Department in the General Department of Criminal Investigations, said the ‘Begging is a Wrong Concept of Compassion’ anti-begging campaign aims to reduce the number of beggars and street peddlers “who exploit others’ sympathy”.
