Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the state-of-the-art New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at the Chennai Airport.
Along with the existing terminals, the airport will cater to a combined annual capacity of 30 MPPA (million passengers per annum) from the present capacity of 23MPPA and 35 MPPA with completion of phase II.
The NITB Phase I spanning over an area of 1,36,295sqm boasts of an impressive array of airport amenities. With 100 check-in counters, 108 immigration counters,17 elevators, 17 escalators, six baggage reclaim belts, and more with which passengers are guaranteed a seamless experience inside the terminal.
The NITB with 2,20,972sqm. area is envisaged in two phases at a cost of Rs2,467 crore.\
Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat train
Modi also flagged off the Vande Bharat express train between Chennai-Coimbatore at the MGR Chennai Central Station.
This is the second Vande Bharat train service out of Chennai. The first one was to Mysore.
Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express
Earlier in Hyderabad Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation various projects worth over Rs11,300 crore related to railways, road connectivity and health infrastructure development.
Inaugurating these projects from Parade Ground in Hyderabad, the Prime Minister, highlighting the spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, He said “It is the duty of the government at the Centre to realise the dreams of citizens of the state related to the development of Telangana.”
The projects include laying the foundation stone of AIIMS Bibinagar, Hyderabad; five National Highway projects and the redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station.
The Prime Minister also flagged off the Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat Express at Secunderabad Railway Station. “The Secunderabad Tirupati Vande Bharat Express will successfully connect belief, modernity, technology and tourism,” Modi said.
