South African Ockie Strydom shot a superb final round of 63 (-9 par) for his second DP World Tour title at the Singapore Classic.

The 38-year-old started the final round four shots back from the leaders of Jeunghun Wang and Alejandro del Rey at -14. A bogey-free final round was enough for win number two of the season after winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship back in December.

Strydom birdied every other of his front nine holes to go out in 30. Three straight pars after the turn was then greeted by four further birdies in his final six holes, including a fantastic up and down on the last hole for his nineth birdie of the day to set the clubhouse score at -19.

The 2020 Oman Open winner left himself with an 8 foot putt on the 18th hole to equal Strydom, but a miss by just an inch on the left side of the hole resulting in par, gave Strydom both hands on the Singapore Classic trophy.

Strydom said 'I was thinking about not being here this week. Hitting it so badly. My coach flew in and my wife said to me, 'listen, maybe this is your week'. And look what happened, it's my week.'

One of the overnight leaders Alejandro del Rey did start the final round in hot fashion by birdieing his first three holes. Double bogey on the sixth rattled the Spaniard resulting in him stalling and eventually signing off for a final round of 71, -15 for the tournament.

A final round score which was matched by South Korea’s Jeunghun Wang. The three-time DP World Tour winner couldn’t capitalise on his position at the start of the round. Finishing the tournament alongside Alejandro del Rey and Germany’s Marcel Schneider in a tie for third.

The DP World Tour continues its “Asian Swing” by moving onto Thailand next week for the Thailand Classic at Amata Spring Country Club, Chon Buri, Bangkok.
